Easy Tips to Beat School Stress

Getting back into the busy school season can bring up a lot of emotions. Excitement, curiosity, or maybe even anxiety. Going back to school is where you get to see your friends, play sports, and learn new things, but when homework starts piling up and mornings feel rushed, it can feel like a lot to handle sometimes. But don’t worry! You don’t have to keep feeling stressed out. Here are a few easy tips for keeping calm all year long!

Prep in the Morning

It can be stressful when you can’t find a missing shoe or math book minutes before your bus comes. Before going to bed, try these simple tricks and see how much better your mornings go!

  • Pick out your clothes and hang or fold them by your bed for quick access when you wake up in the morning.
  • Pack your backpack with all the books, pencils, and homework you need and put it by the front door. Before you leave for school, all your stuff will be in one place! Easy peasy!
  • Help pack your lunch or a snack and have it ready in the fridge.

Plan Ahead

Trying to remember what day your spelling test is, what time soccer practice is, and your locker combination can make your brain feel super full. Using a planner or calendar will help keep track of all your tests and project due dates. Once you finish that assignment, check it off and see how accomplished you feel! You can also have fun with your planner by buying one with cute designs or decorating it with stickers and doodles! You can even use a different colored pen for each subject so you can easily tell them apart. Here is a link to a list of school supplies to make the year fun!

Protect Your Sleep and Time to Yourself

While it’s fun to be in clubs and sports, having zero free time after school or on the weekends can make you feel super tired. Don’t forget to leave time in your week to play, draw, or just relax. It’s okay to say no to extra activities if you feel tired! Another thing to prioritize is your sleep– it’s your secret superpower! When you don’t get enough sleep, it’s harder to pay attention in class and do your absolute best. It’s a good idea to turn off all devices at least 30 minutes before you go to sleep. That way, your brain has time to produce melatonin, which is the hormone that makes you feel sleepy, so you can feel fully rested. If not, the blue light from devices stops that melatonin process and keeps you awake longer and longer. It’s also important to go to bed at the same time every night so your body gets used to a schedule and you won’t feel as tired every day.

You Got This!

Overall, tackling the school year without feeling overwhelmed isn’t about being perfect; it’s about taking small steps that give your brain and body a break. By preparing the night before, using tools to stay on track, and giving yourself time to rest, you can keep your stress low and the fun high. Don’t forget to take a deep breath and go at your own pace. If you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed, reach out to a parent or teacher for help! If you need additional resources, click here.
