Every season follows a different murder, all occurring in the protagonists’ very own building, the Arconia. The plot of the show leads the three on sudden and unexpected twists and misleading clues as they investigate each murder. The trio made their investigations of murders into a podcast titled, Only Murders in the Building.
The Characters:
The three main characters in the show consist of Oliver, Mabel, and Charles. Oliver, played by Martin Short, is an over-the-top failed playwright obsessed with scarves and dips (yes, dips). Mabel, played by Selena Gomez, is the youngest of them all with sharp wits, sarcasm, and a mysterious past. Charles, played by Steve Martin, used to be known as Brazzos, the star of the show. But he is now a reserved former TV star who constantly cooks omelets. They are all completely different, but still click together so well.
Other than the major three, there are so many more important characters that contribute so much to the show. One example is Howard, another resident of the Arconia who is easily one of the show’s most eccentric characters. Known for his love of cats and his awkward yet surprisingly outgoing personality, he is a memorable supporting character in the series.
The Atmosphere:
The show is set in New York City in a beautiful old apartment building where it always feels like fall. It’s like the show was curated to be seen on a cozy autumn night. The characters themselves have secrets, but the building does too. Combined with its charming New York atmosphere, quirky residents, and suspenseful storylines, it’s perfect if you want something for a nice fall evening.
