Reading is a popular pastime of many teens. It brings enjoyment and it takes you on a fun rollercoaster of emotions with every page you turn. Reading also has many benefits, a lot more than you would think. In this article I’m going to list some important benefits of reading.
Increases vocabulary and comprehension
This may be obvious, but reading will definitely help expand your knowledge of words and increase comprehension. The more challenging books you read, the more words you will learn. To get even more benefits, you can have a dictionary while you read, so you can look up words you don’t know, and reread definitions of words you want to review and make sure you won’t forget later.
Reduces stress
This may be slightly less obvious, but reading will definitely reduce stress if you are able to fully relax while you read. Reading can be a way to take your mind off things that may be causing you stress, which can help you take a break from everything going on in the world. I personally love reading before bed, as it really helps me fully relax and definitely helps me go to sleep faster. It’s also a good alternative to just being on your phone.
Form of entertainment
Reading can be a really nice way to pass time. If you read a book that you actually enjoy, it’ll probably be hard for you to put it down. There are many online resources you can use to help you find books that you like. Libraries have a wide variety of books that you may like. They also provide a nice place for you to relax and read without many interruptions.
Provides perspective
Reading requires you to open up your mind and read about things from an entirely different perspective. It helps you feel and experience things through a particular point of view. It can really help you open up your imagination and see things that you probably haven’t thought about before.
Below, I’ve listed a few of my favorite books that I’ve read. I included some really popular ones that everyone would enjoy, so it can be a great starter to get back into reading as a hobby.
