Setting Goals in 4 Steps

Most people complicate goal setting, but when setting goals, you only need to remember a few things: the dream that is the bigger picture, how to concise the dream into small fragments, and keeping in mind the bigger objective and aim.

  1. Set a Short-term Goal: Short-term goals are a great way to eliminate the fear of a big dream, and when these goals are met, they add up to the big dream, making it look a tad bit simpler. So make these small and achievable goals, that way it seems easier to work with.

  1. Set Long-term Goals: Long-term goals should not be your dream itself a larger piece of the puzzle to reach that dream. Suppose your dream is to be an athlete, your short-term goal should be to run or practise for a few minutes every day. Your long-term goal should be to achieve a certain speed in a year. That is a vague idea, so use that same template for your interest and try it out.

  1. Find a proper time in your schedule to fit it: The time you work at should be when you can maximise the optimisation of your skill; otherwise, you will end up with a product you do not appreciate. I enjoy and find myself to be the most creative at night; some people say morning is the best time. The only way to know is to try it out.

  1. Stick to your goals: Goals are just your objectives for a day or week, and just setting goals does not complete the task or the objective. So, goals should serve as a way for you to be motivated to form a habit. Like, if reading 10 books a year is your goal, you should make a habit of reading a few pages every day or every other day.

Now, that does not mean skipping a day or two is bad, and that lowers your chance of achieving your goals. But don’t make a habit of breaking a habit you want to foster.

Four simple tips on how to set goals. The most important thing you need to remember is that goals are puzzle pieces, short-term goals are single pieces, and long-term goals are five or six pieces, and your dream, the ultimate goal, is what your completed puzzle should be.
